The Concurrent Versions System (CVS) provides network-transparent source control for groups of developers. For ordinary users it provides a very convenient way to obtain patched versions in between releases. CVS clients are available for most major platforms: Unix, MacOS, Windows (see WinCvs).

This file documents access to the PARI CVS server, which is intended for PARI lovers who want the very latest bleeding edge release. The CVS sources may contain severe bugs, benches may fail, they may not even compile. Stable releases are made available on a regular basis using the customary method: a message to pari-announce.

Note that in order to use the sources fetched via CVS, you will need a working perl installation. We provide 4 ways to access the PARI CVS server:

• A web gateway.
• You can download a CVS snapshot of PARI/GP from
  • the stable branch (bugfix).
  • the unstable branch (development); this snapshot further requires the GNU bison parser generator.
• An anonymous read-only subversion server.
• An anonymous read-only CVS server. (If you have the choice, prefer the subversion server).
• A read-write access via ssh, reserved to registered PARI developers.
