In fact don't forget that Pari elides *all* whitespace
on input.  E.g. \r fi le is the same as \rfile.  For
users of other languages (myself included) this behavior
comes as a surprise.

Is that the full error message, verbatim?

Are you sure it doesn't say
***   error opening input file:
C:\DocumentsandSettings\jmclaugh\Desktop\prfibgpnbfu37


If so, try quote characters -- your filename is being viewed as 
multiple strings that are to be concatenated.
