Thanks for the help with t_VECs. I can see how the encapsulation and tagging idea would make for easier code. In many ways it seems quite object-oriented! However, I often feel it is better to provide a complete understanding of the mechanisms at work. Following yours and Gerhard's explanation, I have actually elected to code the E [i] = (long) A method. At least this demonstrates to me that a long is being used to hold a long *.
