OK, to keep the record straight, I redid all the test
(I found the 'old' directory in pub/pari/unstable :))

2.2.0 and 2.2.3 work, but not 2.2.1, 2.2.2, nor 2.2.4.

I will try to understand what is going on, but luck is 
the primary factor here.
