I already got emails from my users stating that the above broke the
production applications, so it's not a solution, as I knew in the
first place anyway.  So we need to figure out how to tell a specific
application not to use tls.  I posted a question on libc-alpha mailing
list, but only got one smart-ass useless answer.  It did look like the
most appropriate mailing list out of several glibc-related.

On CentOS 3 glibc is built using gcc-3.2.3
