I'm afraid so.

It's a nasty bug: besides a number of minor consequences, it breaks thue(),
which users could rely on in publications. And breaks it in a bad way:
we return incomplete answers to a difficult problem, which is
impossible to check without an altenate implementation.

There's no point releasing a stable version containing a known grave bug.
Especially when the fix is a 2 lines patch.
