=== WORKSHOP: The computer algebra system PARI/GP =====================
=======================================================================
A week-long workshop on computational number theory in the context of the
Computer Algebra system PARI/GP will be held September 13 -- 17, 2004.
The meeting will take place at the Centre Emile Borel of the Institute
Henri Poincare as part of the trimester on
"Explicit Methods in Number Theory"
( see http://www.ihp.jussieu.fr ).
The goal of the workshop is to gather people developing the PARI/GP system,
or related systems dedicated to arithmetic, and users of such systems.
The workshop follows an introductory course, described below, which should
provide a sufficient general acquaintance with the system.
INVITED SPEAKERS: Bill Allombert, Karim Belabas (Orsay), Henri Cohen
(Bordeaux), John Cremona (Nottingham), Herbert Gangl (MPIM Bonn), Guillaume
Hanrot (INRIA Nancy), Xavier Roblot (Lyon), Denis Simon (Caen), Paul
Zimmermann (INRIA Nancy).
ACTIVITIES:
===========
- Talks on advanced use of the system: library programming, the gp2c
compiler, interfaces with other systems, plans for long term development...
- Talks describing significant applications of PARI/GP to number theory,
with focus on explicit algorithms and practical bottlenecks
- Discussion sessions / problem sessions.
FURTHER INFORMATION: Visit http://www.ihp.jussieu.fr/emnt_pari
or email one of the organizers.
ORGANISERS: Karim Belabas ( Karim.Belabas@math.u-psuf.fr )

COURSE: INTRODUCTION TO PARI/GP (September 8th - 10th)
Karim Belabas
We shall present
* basic concepts, general hints and tricks
* the GP programming language (and the gp interpreter)
* the number fields module
Depending on the requirements of the participants further topics such as
library programming or dynamic loading of library routines could be
covered.
Schedule:
Wed 08/09: 10h-12h course (IHP, salle Darboux)
: 14h-16h practice session (ENS, salle T)
Thu 09/09: 10h-12h course (IHP, salle Darboux)
: 14h-16h course (IHP, salle Darboux)
Fri 10/09: 14h-16h practice session (ENS, salle T)
Please send me a short note ( Karim.Belabas@math.u-psud.fr ) if you intend
to come to the practice sessions.
IHP: Institut Henri Poincare
ENS: Ecole Normale Superieure, 45 rue d'Ulm. After crossing the gate at the
ENS entrance, do not enter the building but turn right immediately, and
follow the main building from the outside. At the end of the (long) alley,
enter the math department, climb down the stairs (to level -1), leaving the
math library to your right. Salle T is at the end of the (long) corridor to
the left.
